Royale: A Classic Palace Atrium by B5 Design

Reviving Classic Architecture: A Blend of Elegance and Luxury

The unique feature of Royale lies in its central atrium, which defines the interior design strategy of the entire palace. With a total height of 16 meters, it serves as the main circulation area, housing all elevators, staircases, and corridors. The concept was developed using highly carved patterns on the floor, walls, and ceiling, all harmoniously blended together in a warm neutral colour scheme.

Royale's design realization is a testament to the timeless approach of 17th and 18th-century European decor. The team took into account the basic elements of the sketch in terms of function and shape, determining the main lines to give a sense of harmony. The choice of furniture, lighting, and decoration was carefully curated to suit the layout.

The technical specifications of Royale further amplify its grandeur. The atrium connects all floors of a total height of 16 meters, with walls consisting of grg coated wall with classic decorative moulding and a heavy texture wallpaper. The flooring is made of luxury water jet and stone vintage style by a customized colour Italian marble, Bianco Vienna, Light and Dark Embrador. The ceilings are of 12mm thickness suspended Knauf gypsum board of grg Mouldings.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team had to consider the height of the space as it connects all the palace floors, achieving a simple elegant look in a classical way by not adding a lot of details in the carvings and walls. They also had to hide the air conditioning system to feel the cold air without noticing the diffusers and grills, and combine the materials to offer solidity built while giving pleasure to the eye and touch.

This project started in May 2020 and finished the design concept and detailed drawings in September 2020. Currently, the project is in the fitout site work phase, located in Doha, Qatar. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
